Research indicates that most individuals prefer proactive versus reactive responses to events in their daily lives — significant relationships, healthcare, including dentist appointments, important personal or family celebrations such as Christmas, anniversaries, birthdays, and vacation planning.

Yet there are some surprising exceptions to this rule.
